Ziad Hanna, M.D.
2017 Rural Health Rock Star
Dr. Ziad Hanna, M.D., was born and raised in Homs, Syria. His mother, an obstetrician, greatly influenced his pursuit of medicine. Upon completion of his studies at Damascus University, he worked briefly as a doctor in rural Syria before moving to the U.S. to pursue advanced education in surgery; first obtaining a DO at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and then receiving surgical training in Pennsylvania at Easton Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored with the Resident Achievement Award multiple times. He also served a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Loyola University in Chicago.
Dr. Ziad joined Ukiah Valley Medical Center in 2006 where he incorporates the newest evidence-based medicine technologies and techniques in his practice. He has helped establish the multi-specialty peer review committee at UVMC, chaired the Surgery and Anesthesia department, and is the surgeon champion for the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) since 2014.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is an active member in the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Hanna finds life and practice in Mendocino County very rewarding; he cherishes caring for his community and neighbors, and is humbled by the trust and encouragement he experiences here. He and his wife, Lama are blessed with four year old twins, Gabrielle and Andrew.
