Sheriff Tom Allman
2017 Rural Health Rock Star Advocate/Leader |
Sheriff Tom Allman has worked for the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office for the past 32 years. During this time, he has been a deputy sheriff, a sergeant and a patrol lieutenant. He spent 12 months as a civilian peace-keeper in Kosovo (formerly Yugoslavia) as well as time working in New Orleans after a Hurricane Katrina.
Improving public safety for the mentally ill citizens of Mendocino County has been a passion that Tom has worked on his entire career, but this passion was amplified in 2005 when his older brother, a military veteran, committed suicide. Reducing the number of mentally ill inmates in the County jail has been a top priority for Tom during his 3 terms as Mendocino County Sheriff. Tom and his family live in Willits and are involved with many service organizations and non-profits. Tom and his wife Laura raised 2 sons and were very involved in the FFA and 4H clubs throughout Mendocino County. When Tom is not working, he is usually busy on the ranch raising livestock or making hard apple cider from the apples that he and Laura produce on their ranch. |
